In this series of short tips, we will walk you through the Ambire AdEx platform to make sure you have all the information needed to take full advantage of it.
Once you have registered your Publisher profile in the Ambire AdEx, you can go ahead and add your ad slots — i.e. the ad property that you have available for advertisers. Here is how to do that.
Verify domain ownership
Before you create an ad slot, you need to make sure that you verify the domain ownership for your website. You can either add a DNS TXT record to your publisher domain or place a .well-known/adex.txt
file in the root directory that contains the same string as shown in the DNS TXT record tutorial. You can find the detailed instructions on publisher verification on this page. IMPORTANT: Please do not edit or delete the DNS TXT record or .well-known file after verification as this would unverify your website! These records must remain there for as long as you would like to be an Ambire AdEx publisher.
Create an ad slot
Step 1: In the Publisher dashboard, click on “Ad Slots” on the left sidebar menu.
Step 2: In the Ad Slots section, click on the “New Ad Slot” button in the upper right corner.
Step 3: Fill in the title of your ad slot (mandatory) and its description (optional). Only you will see those.
Add the website URL (or subdomain URL) for which this ad slot is being created (mandatory) - please note that you will not be able to use this ad slot code on other websites. If you want to monetise multiple websites or subdomains, you need to verify their domain ownerships and create an ad slot for each of them separately.
From the 'Advertising type' dropdown menu choose the size of your ad slot. Be sure to match the size of your inventory, otherwise the ads won’t display properly. Add the desired minimum CPM for your ad slot.
Step 4: Define advanced options for your ad slot.
You can either select the minimum CPM for the ad slot yourself or select for it to be automatically set based on recommendations for the category your website falls in. We are using the categories prescribed by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) to automatically categorise publisher websites.
Additionally, you can select whether you would like to display ads with adult content or not (if such ads are available).
Step 5: Choose fallback image options. If you select a fallback image and URL, they will be displayed when no matching ads are available for this slot. Otherwise the ad slot will be hidden automatically.
Important: If you choose to use fallback image, make sure that the image you upload matches your ad slot size. You can also add a URL where you want your fallback image to lead to.
Step 6: Preview your ad slot settings. Looking good? → hit “Save”. Forgot to add something → click on “Back”.
Your new ad property item will now appear in the “Slots” section of your account.

How to archive an ad slot
You can also archive ad slots you no longer wish to use - this way you won't see them in your account any more and won't be able to implement or edit them. You can do it one of two ways:
Option 1: Under Actions on the right side simply select Archive Ad Unit.
Option 2: When you view an ad unit, you will have the option to Archive it there too:
